Built on 1846, along with Cathcart Tower on Cedar Island, Fort Frederick, ant the tip of what is now the Royal Military College, and Shoal Tower, in the Confederation Basin, the tower helped protect the harbour and approaches to Kingston. The tower is now a National Historic Site, and is open to the public as a museum.
